Silchar: A shocking incident of sexual harassment in broad daylight has emerged from Silchar's Tarapur area, where a drunk man was caught on camera allegedly attempting to inappropriately touch a woman inside a moving auto-rickshaw.

The incident was recorded by Sanchari Bhattacharjee, a school teacher and fellow passenger, who later shared the video on social media. The footage has since gone viral, drawing widespread public outrage and sparking renewed concerns over women’s safety in urban areas.

According to Sanchari, the incident took place during a routine commute from India Club Point in Tarapur to Ramnagar, where her school is located. The ride started off normally, until a visibly intoxicated man entered the shared auto-rickshaw.

Sensing something amiss, the auto driver asked the man to sit in the front seat instead of next to the two women. Despite the precaution, the man allegedly took advantage of the broken and bumpy road to lean back from the front seat and attempt to touch the woman sitting directly behind him.

The act reportedly occurred before either passenger could react, after which the man quickly exited the vehicle and fled.

The disturbing video has ignited anger on social platforms, with citizens demanding stricter surveillance and immediate action to ensure the safety of women commuters in Silchar and beyond.

No formal police complaint has been reported at the time of filing this story, but the circulation of the video is expected to prompt official investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for better public transport safety measures and more responsive law enforcement mechanisms to protect women, especially during daily commutes.
