Guwahati: Facebook and its family of apps including WhatsApp and photo-sharing platform Instagram on Wednesday evening faced a global outage, following which users in Europe, the US, South America and Japan took to Twitter reporting the problem.

According to reports, users faced specific problems rather than the entire apps not loading.

It has also come to light that millions of users had a problem sending photos, videos and voice messages on WhatsApp since today evening.

Also on Instagram, people failed to upload photos in various parts of the world.

Online outage tracker Down Detector logged several complaints, coming from Europe and the US.

Meanwhile, Facebook had confirmed that there is a problem with its apps, and it’s “working as quickly as possible” to fix it.

However, before showing ‘5xx Server Error,’ Instagram was showing error message ‘Sorry, something went wrong’ while attempting to load the page. The message also read, “we’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”

Initially, the outage affected the desktop users before mobile users too began to face similar outage.

Within minutes Twitterati was seen posting thousands of tweets leading to hashtag #InstagramDown trend on the microblogging site. More than one lakh tweets were posted using the hashtag within 30 minutes of the outage affecting millions of users worldwide.
