Final NRC List: Martyred of Asom Andolan Sachindra Nath Bhattacharjee & family excluded

Sarupathar: At a time when the people of Assam are thoroughly criticizing the final NRC list as a certification of the failure of the forty-year-old Assam Movement, a martyred of Assam Agitation Sachindra Nath Bhattacharjee along with the family members namely Sameer Bhattacharjee (Son), Champa Bhattacharjee (daughter-in-law), Kusumita Bhattacharjee (grand-daughter), and Kalika Bhattacharjee (granddaughter) have been excluded from the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), said Sameer Bhattacharjee on Monday.

"Families of freedom fighters of Assam agitation have been disrespected by excluding them from the final NRC list. This is not only disrespect to a particular community, but also an insult to the freedom fighters and the martyrs,” said some of the prominent citizens of Sarupathar.

Son, Sameer Bhattacharjee also complained, “I am the ex-teacher of Sarupathar Kalibari High School and now I am a pension holder from the State government of Assam. We have submitted 1952 NRC of my father as a legacy, land patta of the year 1950, 1950 Citizenship certificate and passport of my father Sachindra Nath Bhattacharjee, my Citizenship certificate of 1956 and including all important documents and even I have pass HSLC examination in 1971. Although names of all my family members' have not been included in the final list of NRC, we are excluded."

Meanwhile, according to the report on 1972, Sachindra Nath Bhattacharjee was also awarded copper memento by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In the year, 1997 former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta also arranged the pension scheme to the freedom fighter's family. It is also mentioned that identity cards for identification of freedom fighter’s family were also provided to this family on 72nd Independence day at Sarupathar under Golaghat District.
