Golaghat Engineering College Authorities urged AICTE Member Secretary to cross verify Documents

Golaghat: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in a letter to the Department of Higher Education (TECHNICAL), Government of Assam had rejected the application of by the Government of Assam for setting up of New Technical Institute ‘Golaghat Engineering College’.

As per reports, the issued had sparked sensation among students of the enrolled at different departments at the Golaghat Engineering College.

AICTE, Member Secretary Alok Prakash Mittal in the letter to the Government of Assam rejected the application by the Government of Assam for setting up of New Technical Institute bearing application ID 1-5037364831 for Golaghat Engineering College in Bogorijeng P.O Pulibor Bidyapith for 17 detailed reasons.

The letter states that the availability of infrastructure/equipment and verification of documents not submitted by the Government of Assam.

Copy of the advertisement in at least one National daily, for recruitment of Principal/Director and Faculty members not submitted.

General Insurance provided for assets against fire, burglary and other calamities not submitted, the letter claims.

It may be mentioned that the college was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in February 2019.

On the other, when contacted the Principal of the Golaghat Engineering College, Satyajit Paul informed The Sentinel Digital that the authority of the College had already submitted its report to the All India Council for Technical Education in their application stating their availability of infrastructure/equipment and verification of documents earlier for at least three times.

“We have around Rs 4 crore machines being installed in this college, Rs 44 cr detailed report about the infrastructure was also submitted earlier, moreover, AICTE has repeated the same points twice which clearly states that the proceeding by the council was not satisfactory. We have already submitted a representation to the AICTE Chairman in this regard,” said the Principal.

The principal also appealed to the Member Secretary of AICTE to cross verify the documents since the report was already submitted by the College Authorities.

The principal, however, accepted that the college has no proper computation facilities like Internet Bandwidth and the ratio of books in the library is less. “We have a shortfall in computers at the Language Laboratory which is around 11 but they mentioned 9 in the letter. We have appealed for the approval of the engineering college for 2019-20 session whereas, they mentioned that one batch each of Civil, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering branches were admitted in the 2018-19 session without the prior approval of AICTE. It is also to be noted that the engineering college in Golaghat was opened 9 months back, on which there is another point stated by AICTE that there was no sociology teacher since last 1 and half years which is quite strange and irrelevant,” the Principal asserted.

The Principal had also mentioned that the college authorities have all the hard copies of the above-mentioned report and they are ready to fight for the sake of the future of their students’ career.

Meanwhile, massive reactions evoked among the students Golaghat Engineering College following the media report stating about the rejection of approval of setting up of New Technical Institute in Golaghat.
