Group calls of Assam Bandh on Dec 27 due to exams; postpones date to Dec 30

Guwahati: Assam bandh called by Krishak Shramik Unnayan Parishad (KSUP) and seven other organizations on December 27, 2019, has now been postponed until December 30.

“We learned that on December 27 a number of examinations are to take place in various institutions and universities,” said KSUP president Pradip Kalita on Thursday. “Hence, for the benefit of the students, we have decided to postpone the bandh till December 30,” he added.

The bandh will not impact fire services, medical, examinations and other emergency services, the group informed.

The 12-hour bandh from 5 am to 5 pm was called to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Members of the group also called for the release of peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi.

Gogoi, who was leading the antiCAA agitation in upper Assam was arrested by the Assam Police on December 12 from Jorhat and later handed over to the National Investigation Agency

The group insisted that the protests should be carried out in a democratic and peaceful manner.
