Guwahati Grenade Blast: Research Scholar Sanjib Talukdar Remanded to Six Days Police Custody

Guwahati: In connection to the Guwahati Grenade Blast incident, CJM Kamrup Metropolitan Court on Tuesday remanded all the arrested six key accused to another four days police custody.

Speaking to the media, advocate, Deepak Sharma, informed that the CJM Court had remanded the entire key accused to more 4 days police custody in connection to the grenade blast incident.

It may also be mentioned that the police on Monday evening arrested one Guwahati University Scholar from Baihata Chariali.

The suspected accused identified as Sanjib Talukdar was also produced to CJM Court and was remanded to six days police custody today.

Sanjib Talukdar (26) was the former Gauhati University President Gauhati University Post Graduate Students’ Union (2016-17). A resident of Baihata Chariali, Sanjib Talukdar was present along with main accused to the Guwahati grenade blast incident, Bijoy Asom.

As per his Facebook Profile, Talukdar is also a Project Scientist at Assam Science Technology & Environment Council, Guwahati. He is also a member of the Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti, the student wing of the KMSS.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Deepak Kumar said, “Sanjib was arrested from Baihata Chariali. He is presently pursuing his MPhil in Botany. He was also working as a faculty at the ‘Motion Coaching Centre’ in Guwahati.”

Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar also mentioned that prior to the grenade blast incident; Sanjib and Bijoy Asom conducted a recce in the busy streets of Guwahati from Ganeshguri to Jalukbari area.

Police reports also claim that they also visited the blast site. “We are interrogating him further,” added Kumar.

So far seven people have been taken into police custody in connection to the Guwahati Grenade Blast incident.

It may be mentioned that the grenade blast took place in the late evening hours on May 15, 2019, around 12 people were injured, including two SSB personnel, when two bike-borne hurled a grenade near the ‘Guwahati Central’ shopping mall.
