Huge amount of illegal liquor seized in Kamrup (M), 4 Arrested

Guwahati: Ahead of the Panchayat Polls, the Kamrup (M) Excise Department launched a massive operation on several parts of the city and seized around 250 litres of country made liquors and three cartons of Indian made Foreign Liquor on Monday evening.

The Excise Department had launched an operation in Borjhar, Azara, Ranigate, Gotanagar, Basistha Chariali and recovered a liquors in huge quantity.

Following the operation, the Excise Department had apprehended four persons in this connection.

Also, in another operation Pandu, Guwahati D Zone and Railway Excise Department had seized around 150 litres of country made liquor from their respective areas.

Earlier, Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner, Virendra Mittal on Saturday, through an order, declared dry day from December 3 to 5 and on the counting day of votes which is fixed on December 12.

The order came to prevent any possible untoward incident ahead of the first phase of Panchayat Election to be held on December 5. All wholesale/bonded warehouses, IMFL retail shops, including clubs and spirit shops, are ordered to be kept closed during the dry period. The order also stated that “any violation of the order will attract penal action as per law”.

Furthermore, all wholesale/bonded warehouses, bars, hotels, clubs, liquor shops shall remain closed during the polls.

It may further be mentioned that the order also stated that “any violation of the order will attract penal action as per law”.

The elections will be held in two phases and the first phase of polling will be held in 16 districts. While the second phase of the polls will be held in 10 districts.
