ICC turns down BCCI formal request to let MS Dhoni wear gloves sporting ‘Balidaan’ insignia

London: The International Cricket Council (ICC) responding to the BCCI formal request to let Indian wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni support the ‘Balidaan’ insignia on his gloves for the remaining ICC World Cup 2019 matches had turned down BCCI's request.

The star wicketkeeper and former Indian Team skipper, MS Dhoni had sported an army crest on his wicket keeping gloves at the opening World Cup 2019 Match against South Africa on June 5.

It is to be noted that the regulations for ICC events doesn’t permit any individual message or logo to be displayed on any items of clothing or equipment. In addition, to this, the logo also breaches the regulations in relation to what is permitted on wicket keeper gloves

Meanwhile, soon after the ICC issued a statement, fans in India were left fuming. The ICC requested BCCI to ask Dhoni to remove the army crest from his gloves.

It may also be mentioned the Indian cricket board BCCI wrote to the ICC seeking permission to let MS Dhoni wear those gloves in India's next match against Australia at The Oval. However, that request has been turned down by the governing ICC.

This move got the news and social media talking about more than India’s resounding win. In fact, it was when Yuzvendra Chahal and MS Dhoni were celebrating South African cricketer Andile Phehlukwayo’s dismissal in the first innings that several fans noticed the dagger embossed on Dhoni’s gloves. Only Para Commandos are allowed to wear the Balidaan Badge.

The insignia, which the audience later realized was a regimental insignia, had “Balidaan” inscribed on it, which means sacrifice.
