She Allegedly Cheated Victims of ₹50 Lakh Over 13 Years
Nagpur: In a bizarre case of marital fraud, Nagpur Police have arrested a woman accused of marrying eight men and extorting lakhs of rupees from them using threats and false legal claims.
Used Social Media to Lure Married Men with Second Marriage Offer
According to police, Fatima targeted married men through social media, presenting herself as a divorced woman willing to be a second wife. Once married, she would allegedly threaten her victims with legal action and demand hefty sums to settle the matter out of court.
The scam came to light after a complaint was lodged in March 2023 by one of the victims, Ghulam Pathan, at Gittikhadan Police Station. He claimed Fatima had duped him and others of around ₹50 lakh since 2010. He also provided proof of having paid her ₹10 lakh.
Fatima, who had worked as a school teacher, followed a consistent pattern in her alleged crimes—identifying potential victims online, marrying them under false pretenses, and then extorting money.
A formal case has been registered, and legal proceedings are currently underway. Police have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of her fraudulent activities.
