Streamlining Governance in a Single Space

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Kartavya Bhawan, a cutting-edge office complex in Delhi’s Central Vista, aimed at transforming how India’s central ministries function. The newly constructed building will house several major ministries under one roof, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, Petroleum and Natural Gas, MSME, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), and the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser.

Currently, these ministries operate from ageing buildings like Shastri Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, and Nirman Bhawan — many of which date back to the 1950s–70s.

Sustainability and Smart Design at the Forefront

Designed with a strong focus on sustainability and security, Kartavya Bhawan boasts a host of eco-friendly and modern features. The building includes solar panels generating over 5.34 lakh units of electricity per year, rainwater harvesting systems, a zero-discharge waste management facility, and electric vehicle charging points. Special energy-efficient glass helps maintain internal temperatures while minimising external noise.

Security and technological infrastructure have also been prioritised. The complex will offer secure, IT-enabled workspaces, integrated surveillance, ID-based access controls, and a centralised command system for operational management.

The integration of multiple ministries under one roof is set to boost inter-ministerial coordination, enabling faster decision-making and more cohesive governance.

With this ambitious addition to the Central Vista redevelopment project, the government hopes to signal a shift towards a more efficient, sustainable, and digitally empowered administrative ecosystem.
