Police shot dead Apple executive in UP for not stopping car during routine check

An Uttar Pradesh constable was on Saturday took into custody and booked for murder after he shot and killed an young Apple executive from close range, official sources said.

The police constable while unable to stop Apple sales manager Vivek Tiwari during a checking, chased him and shot him in the neck, killing him on the spot. This was stated by a colleague of the deceased executive.

The incident took place at around 1.30 a.m. in Lucknow when Tiwari was returning home after the launch of iPhone X plus accompanied by one of his colleague Sana Khan. Although police claim that they noticed suspicious activity in the stationary SUV of Apple executive Vivek Tiwari. As described by SSP Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani two policemen on patrol duty approached the car for a routine check and when the constable at Gomtinagar extension approached Tiwari's SUV for checking, he tried to flee with his car and eventually hit the bike of the two policemen.

One of the constables, identified as Prashant Kumar, fired when the SUV allegedly tried to run him over in an attempt to escape. The policeman then shot Tiwari in the face at a close range and killing him.

As per police statement, Kumar and another police personnel, who was present at the time, have been booked for murder after the deceased's colleague Khan filed an FIR.

Yogi Adityanath. Kalpana Tiwari, wife of the deceased Apple executive Vivek Tiwari, while Talking to ANI,“Police had no right to shoot at my husband, demand UP CM to come here and talk to me.”

Vivek’s brother-in-law, Vishnu Shukla also questioned the police and demand justice for their loathsome attitude. He besides demanded a CBI inquiry in the case. He said, “Was he a terrorist that police shot at him? We choose Yogi Adityanath as our representative, we want him to take cognizance of the incident and also demand an unbiased CBI inquiry.”

As reported by News agency ANI Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani said, "A SIT has been formed under SP crime. I have personally sent a request to District Magistrate for a magisterial inquiry into the incident."

The probe team will include SP, Crime, and SP Lucknow Rural and it will be led by the Lucknow IG. According to Anand Kumar, ADG Law And Order the SIT will submit their report at the earliest.

In the meantime, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convinced strict action will be taken against all those found guilty. Agency ANI quoted him as saying "It was not an encounter. An investigation will be conducted in this incident. If needed, we will order a CBI inquiry into the incident."
