NEW YORK: US stocks closed mixed on Wednesday as investors digested a batch of corporate earnings reports and key economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 88.69 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 25,733.60. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 29.92 points, or 0.38 per cent, to 7,889.10. US department store retailer Target released quarterly earnings results on Wednesday Its adjusted earnings per share reached $1.47 for the second quarter while its revenue stood at $17.78 billion. Shares of Target surged closing 3.21 per cent higher at $85.94 apiece.

TOKYO: Stocks opened higher on Thursday as the yen’s retreat against the US dollar lifted exporter issues, while the US Nasdaq index closing higher overnight added to a positive market mood. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 52.85 points, or 0.24 per cent, from Wednesday to 22,415.40, Xinhua news agency reported. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 2.11 points, or 0.12 per cent, at 1,700.48. (IANS)
