Goods and Services Tax Screening Committee formed

GUWAHATI: GST has been introduced by replacing multiple Central and State indirect taxes. One of the main features of GST is that it removes the Cascading effect i.e tax on tax on the sale of goods and services. For the purpose, the CGST Act, 2017 provides an anti-profiteering mechanism with a 3-tier structure.

A Screening Committee has been constituted in Assam with Viney Kumar Paul, Commissioner, Central GST Commissionerate, Guwahati and Hiranya Kumar Sarma, Joint Commissioner of State Tax, Assam as its members. An Anti-Profiteering Branch has become functional for centralized receipt of complaints at GST Seva Kendra at Central GST Commissionerate, Bhangagarh, Guwahati.
