Google’s popular messaging app Hangout may face shutting down

Guwahati: Google’s messaging app Hangout may not be as popular as that of WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, but being one of the existing messaging apps, it too has some users to its credit. Unfortunately, the users of the Hangout app will not be able to access it after a certain point in time. As it reported by inside sources of Google, the Hangout app has chances of being discontinued from sometime in 2020.

This has been reported by 9to5Google that the development of the app has already been stopped by the Alphabet-owned company Google and this indicates that perhaps the year 2019 is going to be the last year of its existence.

Although this has not yet been clearly hinted by Google that it is going to shut down its Hangout app but at the same time, it has asked its users to shift to its RCS chat feature within Android messages. It seems that Google has been quite keen on making it the default service for its messages across the platform. The term RCS stands for Rich Communication Services. However, the RCS chat feature is not yet launched and is expected to be in action sometimes in 2019. The moment RCS comes into action, users of Hangout will have to exit using it and opt for the new chat feature.

However, all these are just heard and said news and the exact information on the shutting down or launch of the apps are not being clarified. It was at the beginning of the current year, that Google had announced that it is “pausing” investment and development in another of its messaging app called Allo.
