NEW DELHI: The shifting of the assembling plant of the latest iPhone models from China to India has been seen by many as a grand success for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's signature Make in India Campaign. This is also a major shift in policy of the major player in the mobile phone market breaks is trust in the age-old manufacturing trust in their already existing systems.

One of the main advantages that India had while securing this project is the growing geopolitical tensions between China and the US. India's growing friendly connections with the United States, Australia and Japan have also helped a great deal. These countries are some of the major consumers of Apple products worldwide.

Another key factor in consideration is that India is the new president of the G20 group of nations. This has definitely helped the country to boost the confidence of investors in various projects in the country. Highlighting the growth, India is ready to hold the world's fastest-growing large economy in the coming years and its GDP is ready to meet the 3rd rank worldwide by the end of this decade.

But the overall success of the Make in India campaign is not as expected by the central government. One of the main goals of the initiative was to raise the GDP of the country to 25% and the deadline for the same was fixed to be 2020 at the time of the launch of the project in 2014. But it had to be postponed to 2022 and then again to 2025. Although the Covid pandemic has been one of the main hindrances to this aim of development, differences in demographics related to dividends, employment status and incomes are also some of the key roadblocks.

The financial incentives of the current government have definitely helped Apple to set up the production plant in the country several other brands including General Motors, Ford Motors and Harley Davidson have also closed shop in India.
