NEW DELHI: Microblogging site Twitter has released another set of updates which allow people and organisations to verify themselves on the site.
Twitter earlier had only one option, blue tick meant verified, and no blue tick meant not verified. As a part of its latest update, the brand has released ticks of three different colours unlike the one colour before. Not the site will have checkmarks or ticks in gold, grey and blue. Each of these colours has a different meaning, but the availability of any tick would mean that it is a verified profile.
The Gold tick denotes that the profile represents a verified company or official business account of a brand. Grey-coloured ticks will denote that these represent government accounts or government agencies. The already existing Blue tick will represent verified individuals with the organisation. Existing verified accounts will also be changed to these colours accordingly.
The brand has also rolled out its Twitter Blue subscription service again with a different price setting. Verification costs for this service will cost $8 for Android users and $11 for iPhone users. Alongside the tick mark, as proof of verification, these accounts will be entitled to several other features. One of the subscriber-only features announced by the brand is the much-talked-about edit option for tweets. They will also be entitled to 1080p video uploads and a new reader mode.
"Soon, subscribers with the blue checkmark will get priority ranking in search, mentions, and replies to help lower the visibility of scams, spam and bots," mentioned a statement from the micro-blogging platform.
To avail of these subscription-based services, the account must be at least 90 days old and have a confirmed phone number associated with it. The owner had earlier mentioned that the verified accounts will be served half the number of ads compared to unverified profiles.
In a previous attempt, the company had failed miserably in its subscription service as miscreants started imitating known brands and celebrities and causing chaos among the users of the website. It is also important to know that the brand charged a higher amount for its Indian clients compared to the US ones.
