Amid lockdown, MGNREGA work begins in Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI: Amid the lockdown, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) activities for the year 2020-21 have begun in Hailakandi district.

Disclosing the information, District Development Commissioner cum Project Director Incharge, DRDA, Vikram Dev Sarma said MGNREGA work have started in the district since April 28 and altogether 510 man-days have been generated giving employment to 255 registered job card holders under Algapur and Lala development blocks as on Tuesday. MGNREGA activities have also started under Hailakandi, Katlicherra and South Hailakandi development blocks.

Hailakandi has 1,73,271 registered job card holders comprising 1,23,169 households.

Meanwhile, payments against work of two, four and five days duration have been made to the persons provided employment amounting to Rs.1.5 lakh.

Sarma informed that road construction, flood protection, land development, micro irrigation, digging ponds, water conservation, water harvesting and other activities under the flagship scheme have been carried out while making wearing of masks or face covers and maintaining social distancing norms mandatory. "Arrangements have been made in view of the COVID-19 situation to provide hand washing facility at the working sites with emphasis on wearing of masks or face covers and maintaining social distancing," added Sarma. He also further informed that work under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) would begin soon as per guidelines in the district.
