Silchar: In Cachar district, a total number of 20,9193 claimants are there. Out of these 20,9193 claimants, biometric enrollment (BME) of 23,299 claimants have so far been completed. It is mandatory for the claimants who receive hearing notices to go for BME at the nearest NSKs. This information was shared with the mediapersons by Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar at a press meet held at her conference hall here on Thursday. She urged upon those claimants who receive the hearing notice to definitely go for BME.

“We have to complete the process by June 15, 2019, and thus active participation of the people is a must. All hearing centres do not have BME kits. Recently, we got 73 BME kits. There are 118 hearing centres in the district. BME is a must. It is necessary to enroll all the claimants. But, there is certainly a dearth of operators. There is a need for more operators. Candidates willing to work as operators have to go through a simple online test. In fact, the administration is willing to help the candidates to pass the online examination. In a day, one BME machine can complete biometric registration or enrollment of around 40 to 50 people. We need more operators,” said Laya Madduri.

Laya Madduri also said that there is a plan to set up more and more BME centres so that the mammoth task of NRC gets over within the stipulated time. She said that there are plans to set up a control room where people can call and check about the nearest BME centre. In addition to it, they can also ask the LRCRs and BLOs of their NSKs. NSKs can also provide with the information regarding the nearest BME centre. She further said that some central enrollment centres in the vicinity of the office of the Deputy Commissioner would be set up. Based on the demands, the number of kits can also be increased. “For BME one just has to bring some basic documents or photo identity,” she added.
