CRPC Demands Overall Development of Barak Valley

Silchar: Citizens’ Rights Preservation Committee (CRPC), has sent a proposal to Assam Assembly Speaker regarding a number of demands related to the overall socio-economic development of the Valley of Barak. Sadhan Purkayastha, secretary-general of the committee, said, “We have included demands which include completion of the East-West corridor project i.e. Silchar-Saurashtra road project in addition to various other demands.” Other demands include the construction of flyovers in Silchar, immediate revival of Cachar paper mill at Panchgram, revival of the sugar mill at Chargola which is in Karimganj district.

They have also mentioned regarding the setting up of a tourist spot with different facilities in Son Beel and establishment of a fruit-processing industry in Lakhipur. The problem of water-logging on rainy days is a nagging one. So, CRPC has demanded a master drainage project. Establishment of cold storage so as to preserve and procure local agricultural products.

Improvement and modernization of pisciculture in Son Beel, Chatla and other water bodies are also in their list. Most importantly, CRPC has raised the demand for filling up of the vacant posts of both doctors and nurses at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). It has been also mentioned that departments of Neurology, Nephrology, Cancer and other departments be introduced immediately. The proposal was signed by Sadhan Purkayastha.
