Dry days declared from 5 pm of April 16 to 5 pm of April 18 by Hailakandi district administration

Hailakandi: The Hailakandi district administration has declared dry days in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on April 18. In an order issued by District Magistrate, Keerthi Jalli on Wednesday, dry days have been declared from 5 pm of April 16 to 5 pm of April 18 throughout the district to maintain peace and tranquillity in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Dry day has also declared on the day of counting on May 23.

The order warns that strict action will be taken against any person if any intoxicant is found in his or her possession. All IMFL Off and On shops and country spirit retail vend licence premises will remain closed. “Any violation of the order shall be dealt with under the relevant provisions of Assam Excise Act and Rules 2016 and Representation of the People Act, 1951,” the order states. The three LACs of Hailakandi district fall under 1 HP Karimganj (SC reserved) parliamentary constituency.
