Hailakandi and Kolasib-Mamit holds high level Assam-Mizoram meet for maintaining peace

Hailakandi: The district administrations of South Assam’s Hailakandi district and Kolasib and Mamit from Mizoram held a high level meeting to maintain peace and harmony along the inter-state border. Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli accompanied by ADC (Magistracy) EL Faihriem, Circle Officer, Katlicherra, James Aind and ASP Barun Purkayastha held a border meeting with district administrations of Kolasib and Mamit from Mizoram along with their team joined by their respective SPs and discussed issues of peace and harmony at AOR of F147 BN CRPF at Gharmura on Assam side of the border on Wednesday.

Jalli said the district administration would take all possible steps to ensure peace and tranquility along the inter-state border. “Meeting was held in a conducive atmosphere with prime focus on maintaining peace and tranquility on the inter-state border. Both sides agreed to work towards developing confidence between them,” said Jalli.

The district administrations of Kolasib and Mamit assured the Assam counterpart that peace would be maintained along the inter-state border at any cost. During the meeting, it was also decided by both the district administrations to cooperate in curbing activities of militants and miscreants. Asserting such mischievous elements should not be allowed to create misunderstanding among the people living in peaceful coexistence in border areas, the meeting agreed to intensify point-to-point contact of border magistrates and share information. Assurances were also given by both sides for ensuring smooth conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
