Narendra Modi’s Social Engineering Ropes In Muslim Women

Silchar: The enactment of Triple Talaq Bill by the Parliament has given impetus to the drive for membership among Muslim women in Cachar. In fact, in the three districts of Barak Valley, Muslim women have quite silently hailed the passage of Triple Talaq Bill notwithstanding some discordant voices from the clerics and radical elements of the community. The Muslim women look at Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their saviour and messiah who have given them freedom from the spectre of talaq, a sort of slavish treatment. Political analysts call it a part of Modi’s social engineering.

Once their bête noir, BJP today is the party of hope and aspiration for Muslim women. Quite surprisingly, when a team of Kisan Morcha wing of the saffron party led by Probal Dutta went for membership drive in the minority dominated Barak Par, on the southern fringe of the town, there was great enthusiasm among the women, young and old, to become members of the party. Incidentally, Barak Par is known as the bastion of Congress.

Ramiza Begum Laskar, a resident of Barak Par, asked about the enthusiasm among the women of her community to become members of Kisan Morcha said, “We feel liberated and can express ourselves freely, the sense of fear of being subjugated again is gone.” According to her, BJP is their sheet- anchor. Not only has she taken up membership of Kisan Morcha, but also advised others of her folk to follow suit.

In the three camps held at Barak Par, 1200 members from the minority community were enrolled, 80% of whom are women. More drive is on and will continue till August. Muslim women, as Parveen Sultana said, have enough reasons to be attracted towards BJP. Narendra Modi has initiated slew of welfare schemes for the socio-economic and educational development of the minority community. The middle man raj is gone. Though BJP Cachar has set a target of 4 lalh membership, Probal Dutta is confident it will cross the target.

Different wings of BJP are working on field covering various communities and tribes across the district. But, the Kisan Morcha with Misbauddin, vice-president, Sekul Islam, secretary, Rajdeep Das, programme coordinator, Iqbal Hussain, executive member and Abul Hussain of Kisam Mocha block mandal committee led by Probal Dutta has its own strategy to rope in maximum number of minority members. It is Modi’s social engineering which is making their task easy, all of them said in one voice.
