Tribute To Legendary Singer Hemanta Mukherjee

Silchar: Chondoneer, a socio-cultural organization on Sunday organized a commemorative event on the legendary singer Hemanta Mukherjee. The event held at a packed Banga Bhawan was a paean on the late and lamented singer and composer. He was an Indian music director, who sang in Bengali, Hindi and also other Indian languages. Hemanta Mukherjee is also one of the most popular artistes of Rabindra Sangeet who won two National awards for the category ‘best male playback singer’.

The inaugural part of the programme took the audiences by surprise. Use of banana leaves, the lighting of wicks instead of the cliched artificial lamp and felicitating guests with fruits were some of the most unique parts of the night’s event. Hemanta Mukherjee’s song as background music at the time of the inauguration of the programme was unique indeed. In addition to it, at the time of inauguration, renowned sculptor of this region Dr Swapan Paul drew a picture reflecting the relation of a mother with her child, the most pious relation in the entire universe perhaps. The inaugural theme was conceived by Partha Seal of Chondoneer.

The inaugural part which was dedicated to mothers left no dry eyes in the audiences. The invited guests, singers Sagnik Sen and his wife Anubha Sen mesmerized the audiences with their spellbound and hypnotic rendition of Hemanta’s songs. Sagnik Sen was born on November 18, 1986, in Kolkata, West Bengal. As a kid, Sagnik mostly had interest in listening and learning Hemanta Mukherjee’s songs and Rabindra Sangeet, besides listening to other singers of the Golden Era. He shot into limelight when music director Devjit Roy gave him his first break and the opportunity to sing in one of Bengal’s reputed TV channel’s show, ‘The Legends‘, in 2015.

Sagnik is a well-known exponent of Hemanta Mukherjee songs and performs in various concerts in India, Bangladesh, the USA and other countries. At Chondoneer’s event, he along with his wife went to sing one beautiful song after another. The stage was designed by Partha Seal and Sushanta Chakraborty.

The year-wise mercurial rise of Chondoneer’s events is really heart-warming. A dance item by artistes of Nirbaan depicted the exploitation of the poor by the rich. A unique feature was also the playing of the trumpet by around 10 to 12 first-timers. It was well-coordinated by Manoranjan Malakar. Earlier, Chondoneer felicitated two women representation old age homes, Anupama Choudhury and Nila Deb. All in all, it was a surreal experience. People went home taking rich memories of goodliness and Hemanta’s songs.
