Water-borne diseases break out in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: Water-borne diseases have broken out in some parts of Hailakandi district. Cases of jaundice have been on the rise in the past few days. Realising the gravity of the situation, the Health Department has decided to launch measures to deal with the spread of water-borne diseases.

“So far 95 cases have been reported at the SK Roy Civil Hospital. However, we don’t know about the periphery. There could be incidents at other parts of the district. We have already taken precautionary measures. The Health Department will carry out awareness programmes in this regard,” said Joint Director, Health Services, Dr.Abed Rasul Mazumder, adding that a team from Guwahati is arriving in Hailakandi to take stock of the situation on Tuesday. The Joint Director said that as of now there is no alarming situation in the district.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Engineering Department, Hailakandi Division has also taken up awareness programmes urging people not to drink contaminated water, to boil water sufficiently, to store water in clean bucket and utensils and to obtain chemically tested water packets from its office premises.
