DIBRUGARH: Hema Hazarika, representing Dibrugarh district, showcased an outstanding performance at the 30th Assam Inter-District Masters Athletic Championship 2024. The championship was held from December 27 to 30 at the SAI (STC) Centre in Kathalguri, Kokrajhar. Organized by the Kokrajhar District Masters Athletic Association, the event brought together participants from across Assam to compete in a range of athletic disciplines.

Hema Hazarika delivered a stellar performance in the women’s category, clinching two gold medals in the Hammer Throw and Discus Throw events. She also secured a silver medal in the Shot Put, demonstrating her exceptional versatility and consistency across multiple disciplines. Her remarkable achievements significantly bolstered the success of the Dibrugarh contingent, enhancing the district’s strong showing at the championship.

The championship served as a platform for athletes from across Assam to showcase their talents and highlighted the growing significance of athletics in the state. Hema Hazarika's achievements reflect her commitment to the sport and set an inspiring example for aspiring athletes in the region.

Meanwhile, NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) and Mohammedan SC played out a goalless draw at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati during their Indian Super League (ISL) match on Friday. The single point from this match helped NEUFC climb to third place on the points table with 22 points from 14 matches.

Mohammedan Sporting, currently at the bottom of the points table, started the match positively. They earned the first clear opportunity in the 18th minute through Adison Singh. Singh cleverly lobbed the ball to Alexis Gomez, who controlled it deftly and launched a left-footed shot. However, his effort narrowly missed the target, going wide of the left post.
