Dibrugarh’s Md Zayan Ahmed Strikes Gold at Assam Sub-Junior Boxing Championship

JORHAT: Md Zayan Ahmed, a rising boxing talent from Dibrugarh, has made his district proud by clinching the gold medal in the 44-46 kg weight category at the 45th Khirode Neog Memorial All Assam Inter-District Sub-Junior Boxing Championship, held at Jorhat Stadium from July 10 to 13.

Zayan, son of Samiul Ali Ahmed and Farjina Rahman, and a resident of Ayub Ali Path, Naliapool, Dibrugarh, showcased exceptional skill, determination, and discipline throughout the tournament. His dominant performance has earned him a place in the Assam state team.

He will now represent Assam at the 4th Sub-Junior Boys and Girls National Boxing Championship (U-15), scheduled to be held in Noida from August 7, 2025.

The championship, organised by the Jorhat District Amateur Boxing Association and affiliated with the Assam Amateur Boxing Association, saw participation from several districts across the state.

Zayan’s victory is being hailed as a proud moment not only for his family but also for the entire Dibrugarh boxing community. Supporters and well-wishers are hopeful that the young athlete will bring further laurels to the state at the national level.

Meanwhile, Bhabani Moran gave Assam a gold medal in the National Sub Junior Judo Championship held in Pune earlier in January. She participated in the girls' below 57 kg category.
