Dibrugarh's Salt Brook Academy Principal dies of COVID-19

Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh district's Salt Brook Academy Principal Ajoy Sahu has succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday at the age of 52.

A resident of Moran, Sahu was admitted to Assam Medical College and Medical (AMCH) after testing positive for COVID.

Sources said that he had diabetes with hypertension and chronic obstructive airway disease. On Monday morning, Sahu's health deteriorated and died shortly after.

AMCH superintendent Prasanta Dihingia said that Sahu was treated at AMCH for COVID-19 but he had some comorbidities like diabetes and other complications like hypertension and chronic obstructive airway disease. "Today morning he died at the hospital while undergoing treatment," he added.

As per the sources, condolence messages started pouring in on social media platforms after the news of his death was confirmed by the AMCH authority. The students of Salt Brook Academy remembered him as an excellent teacher who cares for the students.

The development came on a day when the Assam government cancelled the Higher Secondary first-year examinations amid a surge in number of COVID-19 cases in most districts, including Dibrugarh. The state registered 48 deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday.

On Sunday, Dibrugarh recorded an 8.34% positivity rate with 216 fresh cases of COVID-19 out of 2,590 tests.

Last week, a total 58 workers, including two hospital staff of Zaloni Tea Estate under Tingrai circle in Dibrugarh district, have tested COVID positive. Earlier, 38 patients were found infected with the virus while 20 new cases surfaced today during the rapid antigen test conducted in the garden.

Meanwhile, Assam on Monday recorded 5803 new cases, after carrying out 72,197 tests with 77 deaths.

India has reported 3.29 lakh new cases and 3876 deaths in last 24 hours.
