15-day training programme on vermicompost and goat farming organized in Tetelia

GUWAHATI: Benediction Society, a non-profit social enterprise under the Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP), organized a 15-day training programme sponsored by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The training was held for 30 women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Dimoria block of Kamrup(metro)district and was held in the Cluster Level Federation (CLF) office of ASRLM in Tetelia.

The training programme began on January 19 and concluded on February 4. The women also received training on social security, business management, rural market dynamics and simple accounting. This was followed by an exposure visit to Morigaon where the women were taken on a field visit to a goat farm. They were demonstrated by the farmers and producers supported by the Yangli Farmers Producers Company in Morigaon, a woman organization aimed at supporting indigenous women and farmers in the district and nearby areas.

With a mission to promote rural livelihoods among women SHGs, Rajesh Kumar Dubey, DDM of NABARD urged the trainees and the Benediction Society to set up a model Vermicompost Production Centre along with a model goat farm to encourage the women entrepreneurs. The inauguration program was held on January 19 and was addressed by Rajesh Kumar Dubey, DDM Kamrup Metro, NABARD; veteran agripreneur Sanjib Kumar Goswami, social activist as well as President of Benediction Society Shashanka Shekhar Goswami and officials of the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission.

The training was conducted by veteran agripreneur Sanjib Kumar Goswami, Rosomai Boro on vermicompost, Dipak Ranghang on social security, Bhanupriya Gogoi of ASRLM, Senior Scientist of KVK Dr Subhash Kalita on goat farming and motivational speaker SS Goswami.

The closing ceremony was attended by Senior Scientist at KVK Morigaon Dr Subhash Kalita, DPM Kamrup Metro at ASRLM Sivalika Medhi, BPM ASRLM Dimoria Abhijit Baruah, Panchayat President of Dimoriya Dipak Ranghang and members of Benediction Society.
