1975 Batch of Cotton College Celebrate World Environment Day

GUWAHATI: A group of Cottonians, the 1975 batch of Cotton College, celebrated the World Environment Day in the company of nature and the students and faculty of an innovative school, Akshar Foundation, in the beautiful natural surroundings of Akshar campus at Pamohi on the outskirts of Gauhati on Wednesday, a press release said.

They began the day by releasing fingerlings at Deepor Beel near the school. The idea being that one always takes from mother nature, as a mark of gratitude, sometimes one must give back. A daylong programme, including drawing competition for the students of Akshar Forum Sschool, was chalked out. A unique contest was to test the knowledge of students regarding naming a plant by looking at the branch and leaves of the plant.

There was planting of trees, and sharing a meal with the students and faculty of the school. For plantation also, careful selection of plants was made which included fruit-bearing trees, flower plants with fragrance, air purifying plants as well as orchids. Boro Nirtya was presented by the local group, followed by prize distribution and sharing of meal with the students.
