2 electrocuted in Narengi area

GUWAHATI: Two persons were electrocuted in the Narengi area at around 9 on Sunday morning. Police sources informed that the incident occurred near the Kolongpar Bazar.

The injured persons have been identified as Alom Dewan (23 years of age) and Ramendra Nath Chowdhury (61) – both local residents. Chowdhury is a retired employee of the Railways.

Eyewitnesses said that Alom Dewan was proceeding near the site of the incident to answer nature's call, when he witnessed Ramendra Nath Chowdhury flung to a distance. He rushed to the spot and tried to help Chowdhury. In the process, Alom also suffered injuries.

The entire incident began when Chowdhury was trying to pick up a bucket from a well with the aid of an iron rod. However, the upper portion of that rod came into contact with a high voltage live wire. He got electrocuted.

Both are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.
