Guwahati: Sarneel Jyoti Sharma, a 3-month-old baby has possibly become the youngest in the state to defeat the virus infection. Both Sarneel and his mother, Hironmoyee Sharma, were discharged from the Mahendra Mohan Choudhary Hospital (MMCH) on Sunday (July 26) after recovering from the virus.

The duo's triumph was shared on the official Twitter handle of the Assam COVID Care Centers along with the caption, "It is really a joyous moment to see #Baby Sarneel Jyoti Sharma age only 3 months and #Mother Hironmoyee Sharma discharged after defeating #Covid19 from #MMCH #CovidHospital. The little baby and mother being felicitated by the #HealthCareWorker. (sic)"

In the pictures released on the internet, the mother can be seen smiling through her mask – elation showing on her face upon being released from the hospital. The baby, on his part, can be seen maintaining a befuddled expression. In a picture, a health worker can also be seen handing a package of goodies to the mother-son duo to make their triumph over the coronavirus even sweeter.

Their release came on a day when as many as 985 patients stricken with the coronavirus infection were discharged from hospitals were discharged after recovered from the viral infection. With yesterday's number, the total number of discharged patients rose to 24,040. As on Sunday, there were 8,106 active corona cases in Assam.

On the same day, 1,142 more coronavirus positive cases were also detected across the state. Of these, Guwahati recorded 171 cases, Kamrup 188 cases, and Darrang – a newly emerging 'hotspot' 100 cases.

On Sunday, the Covid-19 cases in India went past 49,000 as the total caseload crossed 14 lakh, capping the deadliest week of the pandemic so far. The caseload grew by 28% and the death toll jumped by 19%.
