4 KLO (Kamatapur Liberation Organization) members arrested by West Guwahati Police

GUWAHATI: West Guwahati Police acted swiftly and arrested four key KLO (Kamatapur Liberation Organization) members, including the founder of the outfit, who were their way to Myanmar, on Wednesday.

Two KLO members – Manik Barman (21) and Dhankumar Ray (30) both hailing from Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district – arrived in Guwahati on Wednesday from Kerala where they were working. The duo was joined by Dipak Barman, also from Gossaigaon, at Paltan Bazar in Guwahati the same day. From there they went to the ISBT to leave for Myanmar. However, the trio was arrested by West Guwahati police from the ISBT. The police also arrested Kumar Dilip Narayan Deb (58) later from the Fatasil Ambari area in the city.

According to the police, Kumar Dilip Narayan Deb is the founder of the KLO and he was supposed to lead the other trio to Myanmar. According to the police, Deb was to hand over the trio to another party at Dimapur for leading them to Myanmar.

Dipak Barman had also been arrested in 2001 on the charge of being a linkman of the KLO. A case (173/2020 u/s 121/121(A) IPC read with Section 10/13 of UA(P) Act) has been registered at Gorchuk Police Station. The four were produced before the CJM Court on Thursday. The court sent them to three-day police custody.
