42,189 Posts of Teachers Vacant in Assam: Siddhartha Bhattacharya

GUWAHATI: The educational institutions in Assam, from lower primary to higher education, have been making do with as many as 42,189 vacant posts of teachers. This has been revealed by none other than State Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya on the floor of the State Assembly on Wednesday. He said this while replying to a question from AIUDF legislator Hafiz Basir Ahmed.

According to the minister, while 805 posts of teachers have been lying vacant in colleges; junior colleges, higher secondary schools and secondary schools together have 21,562 posts of teachers vacant; 8,141 posts in middle schools; 10,474 posts in LP schools; and pre-senior madrassa, senior madrassa, title madrassa and Arabic colleges together have 807 vacant posts.

The minister further informed the House that while the necessary approval for the recruitment of college teachers has already been given, the process for holding TET for filling up secondary school teachers’ posts has been initiated.
