57,835 posts vacant in 40 Government departments

GUWAHATI: Altogether 57,835 posts are lying vacant in various government departments. The statistics were presented in the Assam Assembly on Monday by Parliamentary Affair Chandra Mohan Patowary in reply to questions raised by Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar. While the highest number of vacant posts (17,192) is lying in primary education department, the Home department and the department for welfare of plain tribes and other backward classes have 14,172 and 6,878 vacant posts respectively. The important departments such as water resource has 3,347 vacant posts followed by 3,014 posts in transport, 1,938 in higher education and 1,360 in General Administration Department.
