68,266 job cards issued after COVID-19 lockdown relaxation

GUWAHATI: After the relaxation of the COVID-19 lockdown, as many as 68,266 people have been given job cards under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) in the State. These new job cards are set to benefit 20,552 families.

Recently, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley appealed to the people of the State who returned from other States of the country to avail the job cards so as to tide over their financial crisis. The Minister appealed to the people afresh on Thursday to avail the job cards as more such cards are set to be issued. He said that the youths who feel shy to avail such cards can come in groups to overcome their shyness.

As many as 6.22 lakh people were given wage-based works after the relaxation of the lockdown since when 46.32 lakh man days have been created.
