GUWAHATI: The 7th edition of Open Streets Guwahati event was held near Dighalipukhuri recently. The event was inaugurated by Ratna Singh, GMC Ward Councillor for ward no. 31 (Dighalipukhuri and Paltanbazar area). Local social worker Manjit Hazarika also attended the event.
Open Streets events are organized across many cities in India and the world. These are non-commercial events that are organized by local NGOs and organisations. The idea is to open up city streets to people, of all ages, abilities and backgrounds who can come out to take part in activities like cycling, walking, yoga, painting, zumba, group games, roller skating, martial arts demonstration, etc, for their mental and physical well being. The main objective of Open Streets is to bring people together to enjoy the importance of car-free streets, physical activities, community engagement, and quality time. In Guwahati, the event is organized by ESAF Foundation and Pedal for a Change, in the winter season at places that are usually blocked for walking and running in the morning hours. The next edition of Open Streets Guwahati is expected to be held between October to December 2023, stated a press release.
