AASU-SEBA meeting held on HSLC/AHM exams and Assamese language

Top leaders of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Tuesday held a meeting with the chairman and secretary of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) on the issues of the board’s latest notification on study of Assamese and holding of the HSLC/AHM examinations, 2021 amidst the fresh wave of COVID-19 infections in the State.

GUWAHATI: Top leaders of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Tuesday held a meeting with the chairman and secretary of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) on the issues of the board's latest notification on study of Assamese and holding of the HSLC/AHM examinations, 2021 amidst the fresh wave of COVID-19 infections in the State.

Demanding complete withdrawal of the SEBA's April 12, 2021 notification the AASU leaders asked the board officials to ensure that no student from the SEBA affiliated pass the HSLC/AHM exams without studying Assamese as main subject.

The SEBA recently issued a notification stating that students would have the option of studying Assamese as an optional subject instead of the main subject. The State board has also made it a rule that students would have the option of studying Assamese neither as main nor optional subject

The AASU leaders have also demanded the SEBA to take a timely decision on holding the HSLC/AHM, 2021 without compromising the issues of students' health and academic year.

The HSLC and AHM examinations are scheduled to be held in the State from May 11 to June 1, 2021.The SEBA has already started dispatching 82 lakh answer scripts to 878 examination centres across the State to ensure smooth conduct of the examinations.

A record 4.4 lakh candidates will appear in the HSLC and AHM examinations this year. It is 88,000 more than last year, Sarma added. While there were 860 centres last year, this year 878 centres have been selected for the conduct of the examinations. Along with the centres, 65 examination venues have been created to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.
