GUWAHATI: The Chutiya Yuva Sanmilan, Assam (CYSA) has reiterated that if the government does not accord ST status to the six ethnic groups of the State before the 2021 Assembly election in the State the ethnic groups will be compelled to take the stand of BJP boycott. The Sanmilan has further said that the government's policy of driving a wedge among the six groups by luring them with the promise of autonomy will only make the BJP face the wrath of the ethnic groups.

In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, CYSA general secretary Nripen Khanikar said, "The people of the State are well aware of the direction taken because of the series of agitations resorted to by the six ethnic groups. The government has made its unwillingness to accord ST status to the six ethnic groups of the State with its delaying tactics like placing the Bill in the Parliament, forming a modality committee with State ministers etc. The BJP and the government will have to pay the price for this in the coming Assembly election. The six ethnic groups should be accorded ST status before the coming Assembly elections in the State."
