Guwahati: All India Electricity Consumers’ Association (AIECA) has announced a convention against the “anti-people” prepaid smart meter system, electricity privatization, and the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022. The National Convention will be held in New Delhi on March 4 and March 5.
The All Assam Electricity Consumers’ Association will also participate in the convention. Speaking on the matter, Ajay Acharjee, the state convener of the association, said, “Consumer associations across the country are actively protesting against the anti-people policies adopted by the government in the power sector. This convention has been organized to unify these opposing voices.”
He further informed that more than 200 association members from Assam will be participating in the event.
Expressing strong opposition to rising electricity rates and policies that they claim burden the common people, the organization has urged citizens to unite and strengthen the nationwide movement.
