GUWAHATI: The AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) staged a protest in front of the main entrance of Assam Legislative Assembly in Dispur against the decision of the State cabinet to remove Assamese from the syllabus of APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) examination. The sit-in demonstration was carried out by AIUDF MLAs -- Aminul Islam, Ashraful Hussain and Dr Hafiz Rafiqul Islam.
Talking to the media, AIUDF MLA and party general secretary Dr Hafiz Rafiqul Islam said, "The BJP government has first insulted the culture and language of Assam by bringing the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act); and now they have removed the Assamese language paper from the syllabus of the APSC examination."
He added, "By removing the Assamese language for the syllabus of APSC, a conspiracy has been made to murder the Assamese language. If this Cabinet decision is implemented, then some of the candidates who would clear the APSC examination in the near future will become bureaucrats of Assam without having any knowedge of the Assamese language. Then, there will be communication gap between them and the public." "We welcome the earlier decision of the state government to make Assamese mandatory up to Class X. However following the Cabinet's latest decision on the APSC syllabus, students in the state will not be interested to even know about the Assamese language.
"Hence, we demand that the Cabinet must immediately withdraw the decision in the larger interest of the Assamese people.
