GUWAHATI: The All Assam Nath-Yogi Students’ Union on Monday alleged financial scams in the Nath-Yogi Development Council formed by the government for the development of the community.

Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club on Monday, the Nath Yogi Students’ Union claimed that scams involving Rs. 5-6 crore took place as parts of the around Rs. 14.5 crore allotted by the government from 2010 to 2019-20 for development projects of the council.

The students’ union claimed that a number of members and officials of the council have misappropriated the money by designing several developmental schemes without materialization.

Claiming that the union has received all the information through RTI, they further alleged that the members and officials of the council are indulged in huge financial schemes. They said that the members have been misappropriating the money by showing the implementation of schemes by NGOs.

The leadership of the union further alleged that the council has also misappropriated money in the name of constructing hostels and weaving centers for Nath yogis. The union appealed the chief minister to take action against those who are indulged in misappropriation of money allotted for the development of the community. They said that the union has already filed a case in the anti-corruption department regarding the issue and has also submitted a letter to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Finance Minister of Assam demanding a probe on the issue.
