All Assam Sanyogi teachers gherao SSA; demand for special TET

GUWAHATI: Hundreds of All Assam Sanyogi Siksha Karmi Union (AASSKU) members gheraoed the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) office here on Monday and raised slogans demanding the State Education Department to advertise for holding the special TET (Teachers' Eligibility Test) by December 20.

They threatened self-immolation in front of Raj Bhawan on December 21, 2020 if the State Education Department doesn't advertise for holding the special TET (Teachers' Eligibility Test) by December 20.

The Union said, "The TET-empowered Committee took the decision to hold the special TET at its meeting on December 3, 2020. However, now they say that it is not possible to hold the special TET before March, 2021. If the central TET and the TET for higher secondary schools can be held in January, why not the special TET be held by that time? We, therefore, demand the publication of the advertisement for the special TET by December 20, 2020.

"If that's not done, we'll take out a Kahilipara Challoprogramme on December 20, 2020. If the government continues lend a deaf ear to our demand, we'll stage a Raj BhawanChalloprogramme on December 21, 2020 and resort to self-immolation."

Amid the demonstration, SSA mission director B Kalyan Chakraborty, executive director Dhurbajyoti Das and other officials held talks with the protestors. They assured the protestors that the State Education department will publish advertisements for holding the special TET at the earliest. They AASSKU said 3,559 Sanyogi teachers have already qualified D.El.Ed. and thus are eligible for special TET.
