All-Faith Iftar Hosted By Lalmati Gurudwara In Guwahati City

GUWAHATI: An all faith iftar mehfil conceptualized by a group of Muslim professional women was hosted by the Lalmati Gurudwara in the city on Sunday. In the past, the group had organized similar all faith iftar mehfils at the Guwahati Blind School (2016), Parijat Academy (2017), and an Eid Mehfil at the Don Bosco Snehalaya, Guwahati in 2018. The prime objective of this initiative is to build bridges between the communities in our society.

Ranjit Singh, President, Gurudwara Committee, while welcoming the invitees to the iftar mehfil informed that the Sikh community believed in helping the needy and serving the society by all possible means. He said, the Sikh community of Guwahati was very happy to hold iftar meets for their Muslim brothers and sisters, and such programmes were being hosted by Gurudwaras across the city. Gyani Paramjit Singh, head granthi of the Gurudwara, spoke on the occasion and explained the tenets of the Sikh religion. Other officials of the Gurudwara viz. Sardar Bahadur Singh, Sardar Sukhwinder Singh, Sardar Virsa Singh, Sardar Kashmir Singh, and Sardar Ajit Singh also addressed the gathering on the occasion.

According to a press release, earlier at the onset of the programme, Teresa Rehman, renowned journalist narrated the aims and objectives of the initiative. This was followed by rendition of verses from the Holy Quran along with English translation by Syed Amaan Hussain and Syed Faizaan Hussain. Nurul Laskar, PR Consultant, spoke on the significance of Ramzan and focussed on the teachings of the Quran which was revealed in the holy month of Ramzan.

On conclusion of the deliberations, the gathering participated in the Shabad Kirtan at the Gurudwara and listened with reverence to the Gurbani recited by the granthis on the occasion. A rumala sahib was presented to the Gurudwara by the Muslim sisters to mark the occasion. As a gesture of goodwill, a sum of Rs 7,450 was handed over by Muslim sisters to Sardar Gurpreet Singh,Jt Secy, Gurudwara Committee for utilising the sum for community services. Every participant was served a hot traditional meal, cooked in the Gurudwara langar, at the end of the programme.
