GUWAHATI: The Assam unit of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), comprising of around 10,000 members and operating over the seven states of North East India vehemently opposes and questions the announcement of the Union Finance Minister to consolidate 10 public sector banks into four. Under the said announcement, Indian Bank will be merged with Allahabad Bank; Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India to be merged; Union Bank of India, Andhra Bank, and Corporation Bank are to be merged and lastly Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank are also to be amalgamated as one. While condemning the move aimed at ultimate privatisation of the Public Sector Banks, the Secretary, Assam State Unit of AIBOC, Dilip Kumar Roychoudhury through a press release urged the citizens in general for a vigorous opposition of the move that is sure to deprive the banking services to the masses in general and a large portion of the country will be denied from the financial linkage once the covert attempt of the government becomes a reality.
