GUWAHATI: In a significant move aimed at enhancing school development, Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) has directed all District Mission Coordinators to engage more actively with school alumni. This initiative was recently discussed and approved during a meeting conducted by SSA.

As per the new directives, Block Mission Coordinators have been instructed to create alumni WhatsApp groups for selected schools on a pilot basis. These groups aim to foster one-on-one communication, promote innovative school activities, and offer alumni a structured platform to support their alma maters. Two alumni, who are already members of the School Management Committee (SMC), will be included in these groups. The blocks have been asked to submit the names, contact numbers, and school names of these alumni within five days to facilitate the formation of district-level alumni WhatsApp groups. Furthermore, schools are required to submit reports highlighting best practices where alumni have contributed to school or student development.

The directive also emphasizes the registration of Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators (CRCC), District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) faculty, B.Ed college teachers, and B.Ed students as volunteers on the Vidyanjali portal. These volunteers will be involved in various school support activities. The SSA encourages participation from alumni, NGOs, retired teachers, SMC members, and individual contributors. In addition, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives are urged to adopt one or more schools for a minimum duration of six months to one year, with the help of CRCCs, Block Schools, and Block Resource Persons (BRPs).

To promote physical development and team spirit, the SSA has proposed organizing sports activities at the school, cluster, block, and district levels. Funds for these events may be sourced through the Vidyanjali platform.

Additionally, the “Utsav Vidyarambha” programme has been introduced to boost school enrolment and ensure regular student attendance from the first day of the academic session. Schools have been instructed to submit data on student enrolment, particularly the number of students who have shifted from private to government schools, along with related data from the “Utsav Vidyarambha” initiative.
