DIMORIA: The Amri Karbi Students' Union (AKSU) resorted to block the national highway at Phong-Ari in Sonapur to show their resentment against the conduct of Tiwa Autonomous Council polls in six constituencies under Kamrup Metro.

Hundreds of agitated AKSU members demonstrated and blocked one side of the national highway. The protesters claimed that in Dimoria, Digaru, Khetri, Sonapur, Ampri, and Phong-Ari constituencies, 70 per cent of the population is of Amri Karbis and the Tiwas has a mere three per cent population.

The protesters said that in 2010 and 2015, the government had to withdraw the decision to hold elections in the six constituencies due to their protests.

"Again the government is trying to hold the polls but we will continue to protest against it. In Dimoria, we have a king and by holding election the government is trying to insult him. It is trying to finish the existence of Amri Karbis," the AKSU stated.

The students' union demanded the government to withdraw the decision to hold polls in the six constituencies before December 14. The body added that it will stage road blockade on December 12 and 14.
