Guwahati: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit has alleged that the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AMSU) and the Congress party are engaged in religious polarization and attempts to destabilize the state over the government’s ongoing eviction drives.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, BJP state spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi claimed that AMSU has been working to “implement the unfinished agenda of the Muslim League” and conspiring with the Congress to undermine the land and political rights of the indigenous people of Assam.
Referring to a recent protest meeting organized by AMSU at Chirakuta in Bilasipara, Dhubri district, Gogoi alleged that speeches made by AMSU leaders were “anti-indigenous and provocative.” He further stated that the chanting of “Allahu Akbar” during the protest was a deliberate attempt to create religious frenzy in the state.
The BJP said that eviction drives led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma have been welcomed by people across communities, but “anti-indigenous forces” are anxious and seeking to obstruct the process.
The party also criticized Assam Pradesh Congress president Gaurav Gogoi for his recent remarks redefining ‘non-Assamese’ to include Bengali-origin Muslims as Assamese, calling it “dangerous for the indigenous people.” According to the BJP, such moves indicate that the Congress is aiming to permanently settle Bengali-origin Muslims in Assam for electoral gains, which it described as the “practical implementation of the Muslim League’s agenda.”
