APCC alleges P&RD department of violating code of conduct

GUWAHATI: The Legal Department of APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) has demanded the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Assam to take immediate action against the State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and the Commissionerate of Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) for issuing direction to complete the process of sanctioning PMAY-G houses to the beneficiaries before March 27.

The APCC alleged that, on March 20, the P&RD Additional Commissioner under the instruction of the State BJP directed the subordinate officials of the department to complete the sanctioning process of PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin) houses to the beneficiaries of the PWL (Permanent Wait List) before March 27.

The APCC alleged that it is a politically motivated step by the State BJP as they are trying to influence the common people to gain votes.

"Such step just before polling of the present election is nothing but a canvassing tactic of the present government to use it for political benefits. It is a clear violation of the Election Commission of India's Model Code of Conduct on Welfare Schemes and Governmental Works," said Advocate Madhurjya Choudhury, general secretary (administration) of the APCC Legal Department.
