GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary Biswajit Ray resigned from primary membership of the party on Monday. In his resignation letter to APCC president Ripun Bora, Ray said he has resigned due to personal reasons and to serve the Koch Rajbongshi community impartially.

Earlier, the APCC issued a show-cause notice to Ray for sharing the dais with NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass at an election rally at Salakati in Kokrajhar district on November 13, 2020. The former AKRSU (All Koch-Rajbongshi Students' Union) president Ray was asked to reply the show-cause notice by November 18, 2020. "Why disciplinary action shall not be taken against you for violating party discipline?" the notice, issued by APCC's general secretary (organization) Ranjan Bora, asked Ray.
