APDCL recruitment scam: After APDCL officials, now candidates to be grilled

GUWAHATI: After 11 people were arrested by the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell in the APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) recruitment exam scam, now it is the turn of the candidates who were in touch with the arrested persons to be grilled by the investigating sleuths.

The CM's Special Vigilance has already issued summons to 124 such candidates and among them, 15 were questioned on Monday. Meanwhile, three members of the Examination Evaluation and Monitoring Committee were also questioned on Monday. These included Bhaskarjyoti Bora, the chairman of the committee, Pradip Bora and Gunajeet Bhuyan – both members of the committee. The fourth member of the committee and CGM of APDCL, Ataur Rahman had surrendered before the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell on September 27, 2021.

According to sources, around 300 candidates were in touch with the persons who have been arrested in connection with this scam. Around 25-26 candidates alone were in touch over the phone with Dipankar Dihingia, OSD to APDCL Chairman, who has been arrested.

The APDCL had conducted recruitment examinations for the posts of office-cum-field assistants, sahayaks and light vehicle drivers on February 17, 2019, and April 28, 2019, with the help of a third party– NEICOM. Allegations of anomalies in holding the examinations were levelled from various quarters. The CM's Special Vigilance Cell registered a case 04/2021 u/s 120B/420/468/471 IPC, r/w Section 7/13(b) of PC (Amendment) Act, 2014 last month and arrested 10 people in connection with the recruitment exam scam. The prime accused, Ataur Rahman surrendered.
